WHAT INTEGRAL COACHING® OFFERS
- To work with a client on a topic that deeply matters to them, that they have also had difficulty making and/or sustaining progress in to date
- An approach to change that focuses on developing competencies to enable new results
- A customized coaching program tailored to meet the client where they are, with cycles of development that progressively enable them to make meaningful progress on their topic
Integral Coaching® does NOT provide the client with a strategic plan and series of action steps that the client is then accountable for executing while the coach motivates them. Rather, it is an in-depth program that shines a light on areas of the client's topic that they have been unaware of, in order to make progress quickly and permanently. Coaching is not therapy.
WHAT THE CLIENT CAN EXPECT
Engaging in a coaching program that is designed to support the client in making significant progress in their coaching topic, with a finite timeframe beginning and completing over several weeks
- Meeting with the coach on a regular basis (1 - 1.5 hour meetings every 2 - 3 weeks)
- Actively engaging in daily exercises / practices between the meetings that are custom designed for the specific development requirements of the client
- Being willing to "take a look" and to do things that are outside their norm, where new development takes place
- Working with a coach in a way that is flexible and dynamic, while adhering to the principles of Integral Coaching®
- Confidentiality is of utmost importance. No specific coaching information will be shared with anyone but the client.
WHAT IS REQUIRED OF THE CLIENT
In order for Integral Coaching® to be effective, the client must take the time needed to meet with the Coach on a regular basis and to do the exercises and practices they agree to. The client must also be willing to take a look at themselves and to try 'different' as part of the development process, and to speak honestly about what is working and what is not, and to work with the Coach to customize the program for best results.
I accurately create, maintain, store and dispose of any records of work done in relation to the practice of coaching in a way that promotes confidentiality and complies with any applicable laws. I construct clear agreements with my clients, and honor all agreements made in the context of professional coaching relationships. I ensure that, prior to or at the initial session, my coaching client understands the nature of coaching, the bounds of confidentiality, and other terms of the coaching agreement. I respect the client's right to terminate coaching at any point during the process. I will be alert to indications that the client is no longer benefiting from our coaching relationship. If I believe the client would be better served by another coach, or by another resource, I will encourage the client to make a change. I respect the confidentiality of my client's information, except as otherwise authorized by my client, or as required by law.
WHAT IS INTEGRAL COACHING®?
"Integral" means inclusive of everything, entire, complete, whole. So, at its deepest root, Integral Coaching® refers to a way of coaching that is whole, complete and integrated. Further, Integral Coaching® includes frameworks based on Integral Theory (see Integral Institute for further information). We have extensively studied Adult Development Theories and Integral Theory to build a systematic approach to change, bringing about change, and pursuing change using an approach that is whole and complete. Change is at the root of coaching whether it is introducing healthier ways of being in our current lives or transformative depth work that brings about radical development. Ken Wilber's Integral Theory underlies many aspects of our work and similar to other Integral colleagues in different disciplines, we have been applying Integral Theory to the field of Professional Coaching; others have applied it to their fields of study (Integral Psychology, Integral Ecology, Integral Politics, etc.).
Integral Coaching® provides the Integral map for the discipline of Professional Coaching. It includes behaviourism and ontology. It includes systems approaches and the unique dyad phenomena associated with a relationship between a coach and client. It includes subjective understanding and objective, measurable results. And it works. Quickly. Powerfully.
The Integral Coaching® method enables you to get underneath a coaching topic to see how a client has been approaching it up until now. There are usually some fundamental 'Ah Ha' moments as the client realizes, "No wonder I haven't been able to sustain this." Integral Coaching® enables the client to more effectively identify and work with long-standing patterns while building the ability to move in new directions. Both occur at the same time. The grip of a past way of being is loosened as it is more consciously worked with while simultaneously creating new ways of moving forward.
In actively working in both the 'past-based' way of being and the 'future-based' desired outcomes, results are attained in very short periods of time. Our approach to understanding clients is powerful in that we use lenses to 'look through' so that we can appreciate the world views of our clients. They are not tools to categorize clients, stick them in a box and draw conclusions about who they can and cannot work with!
The combination of a powerful Integral Coaching® method, the meaningful objectives of a coaching topic and a complete view of a client enable a powerful approach to adult human development. We have been described as best in class by the Integral Institute for our truly Integral approach to the discipline that is being called the change modality of our times: Coaching.
